author, blogger, musician, traveller, science writer and research funding specialist
I combine my love of stories, knowledge of our physical world and passion for many things creative into narrative and song.
When I’m not writing books or research funding applications, I’m singer-songwriting on the guitar and cello, spending time with my partner Chris, our family and friends, landscaping our six hectares of garden in Gibbston, making furniture, tramping, mountain biking, skiing in winter, travelling… There are never enough hours in the day for all the things that I love to do.
In Madagascar, I asked why the bones of the dead were kept in concrete houses more substantial and larger than houses occupied by the living. I was told, “You are dead far longer than you are alive.” That sentiment parallels perfectly with my core tenet – I like to make the most of every minute because right now is all we ever have.
Come and hear songs from my recently released album Menagerie:
WANAKA Sunday 8 November: 7pm at the Rhyme & Reason Bar, together with Roger North who will play his original songs on guitar with a ‘Broken is Beautiful’ theme
CHRISTCHURCH Sunday 2 November: 7pm at the Wunderbar as part of a three act line-up with Rachel Hird and Bill Heffernan, all playing our original music.
QUEENSTOWN Saturday 28 November 1pm: as part of the Queenstown Library 150th celebrations at the library, 10 Gorge Road, Queenstown
I’d love to hear from you
